South Korea’s Ruling Party Opposes Impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol
According to Yonhap News Agency on the early morning of December 5, South Korea’s ruling People Power Party held a full assembly of its lawmakers and passed a resolution opposing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Yonhap also reported that South Korea’s opposition parties formally submitted an impeachment motion against President Yoon to the National Assembly early on December 5. The National Assembly is expected to vote on the motion between December 6 and 7.
On the evening of December 3, President Yoon delivered an emergency address from the presidential office in Seoul’s Yongsan district, issuing a martial law declaration. Six hours later, the declaration was lifted. On December 4, multiple opposition parties initiated an impeachment motion against the president in response.
