February 5 -According to ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to trade guard Quentin Grimes to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Caleb Martin.
Sources reveal that the 76ers will also receive a second-round pick-their own 2025 selection.
The Mavericks and Grimes had discussions about a contract extension in the fall, but sources say the two sides were far from reaching an agreement. Reportedly, Grimes was seeking a contract similar to the full mid-level exception, which starts at $12.8 million per year, while the Mavericks valued him closer to a deal like free agent Naji Marshall’s three-year, $27 million contract.
Martin is currently in the second year of a four-year, $35 million contract, which includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. This season, he has been a starter, averaging 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Known as a versatile wing player, Martin has also proven himself in the playoffs. In 45 career postseason games, he has averaged 9.1 points with a 40.1% three-point shooting percentage, including a deep playoff run with the Miami Heat to the 2023 NBA Finals.
Grimes, 24, is averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this season while shooting a career-best 39.8% from three. The Mavericks acquired him this past summer in a trade with the Detroit Pistons.
