iPhone 17 Air Details Leaked: Major Compromises for a Slimmer Design

[CNMO Tech News] According to recent reports from The Information and Wayne Ma, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air (or iPhone 17 Slim) is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever. Prototypes of this new device reportedly measure between 5 to 6 millimeters thick. In comparison, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are 7.8 millimeters thick, while the iPhone 16 Pro reaches 8.25 millimeters. To achieve such a slim design, Apple has had to make several compromises.

First, the device will eliminate the physical SIM card slot entirely, relying exclusively on eSIM technology. Additionally, to save space, the phone’s bottom will feature only a single speaker. For the camera, the new model will shift to a single-camera design housed in a larger central bump on the back. This marks a significant departure from the iPhone 16 series, which comes with at least dual-camera setups.

Apple will also introduce its in-house 5G modem in this model, which is smaller and more power-efficient but lacks support for mmWave 5G. As a result, data transfer speeds may be slightly slower.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro series is expected to switch from titanium frames to aluminum ones. The back panel will combine aluminum and glass materials, with a larger rectangular aluminum camera bump on the top and a glass lower half to enable wireless charging.

The iPhone 17 lineup is anticipated to launch in the fall of 2025, most likely in September.
