January 21 – Daily Newspapers: According to Counterpoint’s latest monthly smartphone sales report, China’s smartphone market saw a 3.2% year-over-year decline in sales during Q4 2024, making it the only quarter in 2024 to experience a year-over-year drop. In Q4, Huawei reclaimed the top spot in market share, followed by Xiaomi and Apple.

Performance of Major Smartphone Brands
Counterpoint Senior Research Analyst Mengmeng Zhang commented:
“In Q4 2024, Huawei surged to the top with an 18.1% market share, marking the first time it has regained leadership since the U.S. sanctions. Huawei’s sales rose 15.5% year-over-year, driven by the strong performance of the mid-range Nova 13 series and the high-end Mate 70 series.”
Xiaomi secured second place with a 17.2% market share, buoyed by robust performance from Q3 to Q4. The flagship Xiaomi 15 series, launched in October, was a major growth driver. Xiaomi’s efforts to penetrate the high-end market paid off significantly this year. Additionally, the success of Xiaomi’s electric vehicles (EVs) boosted its brand image and further propelled smartphone sales.
Apple, facing intense competition from Huawei and other Chinese brands in the premium market, ranked third with a 17.1% market share. However, its sales fell by 18.2% year-over-year.
2024 Full-Year Highlights
For the full year of 2024, China’s smartphone market sales grew by 1.5% year-over-year, a recovery compared to the 1.4% decline in 2023. vivo led with a 17.8% market share, followed by Huawei at 16.3%, and Xiaomi at 15.7%.
Outlook for 2025
Counterpoint predicts that China’s smartphone market will continue to grow at a low single-digit rate in 2025.
